The new Companies House Business Plan

Limited Company, News, Security,

A new Companies House Business Plan has been published recently, with a clear focus on improving the experience for legitimate businesses. For owners and directors of small limited companies, this should mean a more streamlined, digital‑first interaction with Companies House in future.

Focus on customer experience

The Companies House Business Plan sets out strategic objectives for the next few years, with a strong emphasis on what it calls ‘seamless, customer‑focused services’. Companies House says it wants to build a better understanding of what it’s like for directors and company owners to use its services and to use that insight to shape future changes.

Digital filing and fewer errors

A key theme of the plan is further investment in digital services so that more filings can be made quickly and accurately online.

Companies House plans to expand automation and online checks to reduce rejected submissions and help ensure the public register is updated promptly. For small companies, this should translate into faster, more intuitive filing, provided internal records are kept up to date and filings are made digitally wherever possible.

Better support for directors

The plan also recognises that directors have differing levels of experience and support, and commits to clearer guidance with other government bodies such as HMRC and The Insolvency Service. The aim is to help more directors understand and meet their legal responsibilities while reducing unnecessary admin for compliant businesses.

Looking ahead…

These changes sit alongside wider company law reforms, including identity verification and a more proactive role for Companies House as a gatekeeper of corporate information.

Small company directors can expect a gradual shift towards more digital‑by‑default processes and closer scrutiny of the information filed, but with better tools and support to get things right first time.

For our clients, there shouldn’t be that much change, as we manage the majority of filings on your behalf. We will of course keep you up to date with the implications of any changes, as they may well change the methods with which we work at key times for your business, such as company formations and amendments.
