Chris Baranov, FCCA – Director
Having qualified as a Chartered Certified Accountant in 1989, Chris has been told on many occasions that he’s ‘not like a normal accountant’!
We like to think that’s because he can explain complex subjects in ways that non-financial people can understand, can speak to directors, business owners or employees equally happily, and loves to roll up his sleeves and help clients in any way he can. Chris can add value to almost any business, drawing on over 30 years experience of many industries and a solid commercial awareness.
As our technical guru for all things accounts and tax, Chris is also able to advise clients both on optimising the day to day use of their bookkeeping software and related Apps, as well as helping them decide on the best bookkeeping solutions for their business.
Chris is Xero Migration Certified, enabling him to help clients move to Xero in the most efficient and painless way possible. He also holds Xero and Quickbooks certifications, amongst others!
With a passion for gadgets, skiing and an encyclopaedic knowledge and love of the Lakeland fells, Chris is happiest when poring over a map with a small glass of single malt whisky in his hand.
Liz Baranov – Director
Liz’s background before our earlier business was in customer service, database customisation and process management for large corporates including Vauxhall, Wickes Home Improvement Centres and Barclays Bank, which came in extremely useful as the business grew. Since then, she has learnt a huge amount about marketing and networking, the combination of which ensured we had a good pipeline of new clients joining the firm. Working with clients to pass on that knowledge, and enhancing the relationships we enjoy with them is a real pleasure to her.
Despite now having spent more than twenty years managing our accountancy firms, and being Xero Certified, Liz is not technical, and instead has responsibility for everything besides the technical aspects of the business! This makes her our head honcho for client service and communication, marketing and process management, amongst other things.
Away from the office, Liz has a passion for motorhome travel in warm weather, and loves to run most mornings, to crochet and to ski or walk the fells, with the occasional slice of cake or mug of hot chocolate to make it all worthwhile!
Additionally, we have partnerships in place with bookkeepers and a payroll bureau who extend our team, to whom we will introduce clients who need those services. We oversee the relationship, and keep in touch with all parties, but can add more value to clients by focusing on other areas of the business.
Our firm is called Baranov Associates because we have a range of other advisors and contacts that we can call upon to help support any gaps in our clients’ contacts list. We’ve known many of those associates for many years, and are able to trust that they’ll support our clients with the same level of commitment that we offer.
