Cyber Security

Cyber Security has its own Information Centre area as a reflection of its ever increasing importance.

In the twelve months to January 2022, 39% of the UK businesses surveyed had identified a Cyber Attack, including phishing attempts, while 21% identified a sophisticated attack type such as denial of service, malware, or ransomware. In the Government survey*, 31% of businesses estimated they were attacked at least once a week. The average cost of all reported cyber attacks in the period was £4,200, whilst for larger businesses this rose to £19,400. Even the lower figure could have a significant impact on a business.

Whilst we would never claim to be experts in the field, it’s an area that business owners need to consider and monitor.

This will never be a section that contains pages of posts, but hopefully those that do appear will be of value, and offer relevant suggestions.

Our best advice? Find a reliable, informed expert who can keep your business secure, and ensure your team are well trained to think before they act. The majority of issues arise because well intentioned employees fall foul of unscrupulous people who take advantage.

How is your Cyber Hygiene?

Cyber Hygiene is becoming an increasingly important consideration in the fight against cyber crime. The results of an attack can be significant for any business, so what should businesses be considering to protect themselves and the data they hold?

New Online Tools to improve Cyber Security

The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) has launched new online tools that make cybersecurity more accessible and easier to manage for the UK’s smallest businesses and sole traders.

Are you safe from Cyber Attacks?

42% of small businesses have experienced cyber attacks in the last year, with the average cost to a small business being £900. Government research has shown that more than half of these cyber attacks were spotted by staff rather than software, and are recommending staff training to identify and stop attacks.

Can I just say we are so pleased that we have moved to Baranov Associates. As we discussed when you visited, we had to find a way to take the stress out of all of the financials and you’re doing that for us! We can see how to use Xero more efficiently and so with us being as on top of it as we can be and with you and Liz we feel a lot more confident about our business being in good shape.
