Changes to Xero New Invoicing

Bookkeeping, News, Xero,

Xero announced some time ago that the Classic format of invoicing was to be retired in September 2024. Since that point, they’ve made more changes to the new format, and have decided to extend the deadline for users to move across.

Instead of the retirement, all invoicing users will be moved to the new format on the 1st September 2024. Classic invoicing will now be retired on the 19th November 2024 at 8pm GMT.

Features and Enhancements now available in new invoicing:

A range of new features have been added to the new invoicing format since January 2024, so if you looked at it when it was first launched and decided to stay with the familiar Classic option, you may have missed the following:

  • being able to attach files from Xero’s library to your invoice.
  • the ability to view detailed history and notes, including when an email was first sent and the email address the invoice was sent to.
  • Improvements to the layout, whcih makes it easier to navigate and tab through fields.
  • new features like an improved invoice send process which includes a live side-by-side email preview and new copy and blind copy options.

Xero Central has a comprehensive list of all new invoicing updates including other updates that are already live, as well as details of updates in the pipeline before the retirement of the Classic option, and a comparison of the two formats.

If you have held off from making the change, you’re going to have to bite the bullet soon, so it would be a good idea to set aside some time to take a look at the new format, perhaps read through the information on the link above, and then work through the process a few times, giving yourself a little extra time to get familiar with the amended format. After producing a few invoices, it will start to feel more familiar. If you plan for the process, it’ll be far easier than holding off until you’re forced to make the move!

As always, if we can help at all, please get in touch, but also remember Xero Support are there to help you, and will have dealt with any permutations of issues that you may come across many times before, so will be able to solve any problems you may come across too.
