Global Entrepreneurship Week 2023

Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) is a collection of tens of thousands of events, activities and competitions each November that inspire millions to explore their potential as an entrepreneur while fostering connections with investors, researchers, policymakers and other startup champions.

This year’s event is taking place at the moment, and runs from the 13th November to 19th November 2023.

Co-founder and GEN President Jonathan Ortmans opening message explains the background of GEW and introduces some of the key events this year.

He explains that GEW 2023 is the 16th year of a mission to show the world that Silicon Valley isn’t the sole hub of entrepreneurial spirit. This year’s theme, “Entrepreneurs Thrive Here,” celebrates what he calls the ‘thriving entrepreneurial culture’ in diverse communities, towns, cities, and nations worldwide. With over 40,000 events planned, reaching an estimated 10 million attendees globally, he says ‘the week stands as a testament to a unified global entrepreneurial ecosystem’.

This year’s events focus on the unique qualities that make each community a nurturing ground for innovators, creators, and risk-takers. The aim is to celebrate entrepreneurial skills and instil pride in these abilities, especially during recent challenging times. 

The week is also an invitation for everyone to participate through social media using hashtags #GEW2023 and #EntrepreneursThriveHere, and to contribute thoughts and feedback through a survey, fostering a sense of unity and shared purpose.

Ortmans ends his introduction with the following ‘Global Entrepreneurship Week 2023 is more than a celebration; it’s a reminder of our shared goals as a global community to create, share, and improve lives, transcending differences and fostering a healthier, safer, and stable global economy.’
