The number of Tax Returns submitted over the Christmas break jumped in 2019, with 15% more tax payers submitting their Return on Christmas Day itself! In 2018 2,616 people filed on the 25th December, while 3,003 filed in 2019.
Numbers of those who chose to file their tax returns during the other key days of the festive period were also up on 2018. HMRC’s director-general for customer services commented ‘Whether you squeezed it in before tucking into a Christmas pudding, after the Queen’s Speech, or trying to grab a bargain during the festive sales, our online service is available to file your tax return at any time you wish.’
Despite the flurry of festive activity, more that 11 million Tax Returns for the year ended 5th April 2019 will be filed before the midnight deadline on the 31st January 2020.
