Festive Tax Return submissions jump in 2019
The number of Tax Returns submitted over the Christmas break jumped in 2019, with 15% more tax payers submitting their Return on Christmas Day itself! In 2018 2,616 people filed on the 25th December, while 3,003 filed in 2019.
Numbers of those who chose to file their tax returns during the other key days of the festive period were also up on 2018. Christmas Eve saw 22,035 submitting their Tax Returns, while 9,254 chose Boxing Day to tick the task off their list. Boxing Day included the busiest hour for Tax Return filing, with 946 Returns being filed between midday and 1pm.
HMRC’s director-general for customer services commented ‘Whether you squeezed it in before tucking into a Christmas pudding, after the Queen’s Speech, or trying to grab a bargain during the festive sales, our online service is available to file your tax return at any time you wish.’
Despite the flurry of festive activity, more that 11 million Tax Returns for the year ended 5th April 2019 will be filed before the midnight deadline on the 31st January 2020.
