Yesterday’s Autumn Budget 2025 finally ended an extended period of intense speculation. Business owners have been braced for Rachel Reeves’ latest raft of tax increases, while still working to adjust after the last round.

With what felt like a never-ending succession of stories, media speculation around the potential content had been rampant for weeks.

The Chancellor’s announcements yesterday have finally provided clarity, allowing us all to move from speculation to practical planning.

The key announcements included:

  • Personal Tax thresholds to be frozen for three years from 2028-29.
  • Salary sacrificed pensions contributions to be taxed.
  • Increased tax rates on dividends, property and savings income.
  • Writing Down Allowance main rate for Corporation tax reduced.
  • Mileage based charge for electric vehicles from 2028.
  • Gambling tax increased.
  • Capital Gains Tax reduced.
  • Mansion Tax introduced on properties worth over £2m.
  • Increased Tax administration, compliance and debt collection measures.
  • Fuel duty freeze extended and then to increase.
