Xero Tap to Pay: Contactless Payments without a terminal

Cashflow & Forecasts, News, Xero,

Xero has taken another major step towards making payments simple for small businesses with the launch of Tap to Pay, in partnership with Stripe. This new feature allows you to accept in-person, contactless payments directly from your mobile phone without a physical card terminal.

Tap to Pay is designed to streamline your payment process and lets you get paid on the spot as soon as work is complete. By enabling contactless payments, you can reduce admin time and paperwork. Simply create a new invoice or select an existing unpaid invoice in the Xero App, take payment, and the invoice is instantly marked as paid and ready for reconciliation.

Customers can pay using physical cards, digital wallets (like Apple Pay and Google Pay), or wearable devices such as smartwatches, all with a simple tap on your phone. Tap to Pay is supported on both Android and iPhone devices.

How to get started…

It’s easy! You just need a Stripe account and the Xero Accounting app on your phone.

There are no sign-up, setup, or monthly fees. You only pay Stripe’s transaction fee when a customer makes a payment (currently 1.4% + £0.20 for EEA cards, 2.9% + £0.20 for non-EEA cards).

Note: UK regulations generally prohibit passing card processing fees on to customers, so be sure to review your compliance obligations.

Tap to Pay isn’t currently available for users with multiple Stripe accounts connected to their Xero organisation, but most small businesses can start accepting contactless payments straight away.

The benefits…

We’re always looking for ways clients can get to the money into their businesses faster, and earlier in the sales cycle, and this is an easy one! Offering more ways to pay can make your business look more professional but also improve your cash flow dramatically IF you utilise them.
